Don Vito's in South Point - For Good Meal

Month Visited: 11/11

11/11 A basket of warm rolls was delivered to the table which we normally would have refused, but not tonight because we knew from past experience that they would be accompanied by a small bowl of roasted garlic, chopped tomatoes and EVO. We each ordered the eggplant Parmesan which came with a choice of soup, salad or pasta. Ann chose the excellent pasta fagioli while I ordered a salad dressed with tomato basil vinaigrette. The eggplant, stuffed with ricotta, was very good and I was able to use a 2 for 1 coupon from a locals mailer.

12/10 We received warm rolls and a small bowl of EVO with chopped fresh tomatoes and roasted garlic. Entrees include a choice of soup or salad; we each chose the pasta fagioli which was pretty good though it would have benefited by the addition of some herbs. My entrée was spaghetti and meatballs while Ann chose eggplant Parmesan. Both were a little better than satisfactory though Annâs would have benefited by some additional gravy (sauce). We used coupons from the funbooks received a check-in for free desserts, tiramisu and crème brulee

09/09 Stand aside Donald Trump because here is Westies version of the Art of the Deal. We both chose eggplant Parmesan which was very reasonably priced at $13.95; entrees include a basket of warm rolls and choice of either a house salad or soup. Ann chose pasta faglioli which was delicious while I paid an extra $1 to upgrade to a mundane Caesar salad. Sounds like a pretty good deal so far, but by ordering 2 entrees between 5PM and 6PM we received a complimentary half bottle of Ruffino Chianti. Our entrees were very good and each came with a side order of ziti topped by a serviceable marinara.

This would have been a good deal had we stopped there, but it got better when I brandished a funbook coupon for 2 free desserts under the waiters nose, mine a pretty credible version of crème brulee while Anns tiramisu was blah. Hold on to your toupee Donald because there is more, on Wednesdays all food is half off when using points. Our total bill before application of coupons, points and other discounts was $53.97, but only $14.95 (5,000 points) was charged to my slot card. ($7, 3 Forks)

Don Vito's in South Point - For Dinner

Month Visited: 12/07 - Good Meal

My wife and I had dinner in this lovely restaurant between Christmas and New Years and we both thought it was top notch. Service was good but not rushed or pushy, attentive, and dead on accurate with everything. I ordered a Saphire martini before we ordered our food and requested some blue cheese stuffed olives with it. They did not have any on hand, but the barkeep made some for the martini. I had Cioppino that was outstanding--excellent broth and loaded with good seafood, however, the clams were a little tough and I suspect they were overcooked. Wife had Eggplant Parmesan which she said was very good. We shared a fried mozzarella appetizer and each had a salad and I had more than I could eat even though I am a big eater. I had a completely different dining experience from some of the people who have posted negatives on this restaurant. The menu is available online at South Point's website if you want to take a look. Prices were very reasonable and I will definitely go back.

Don Vito's in South Point - For Dinner

Month Visited: 04/07 - Bad Meal

When seated we asked for the wine list. Never came. When we ordered
food we asked for the wine list. Never came. When they brought the rock
hard dinner rolls we asked for the wine list. Never came. When they
brought our lasagne we asked for the wine list. Never came. The lasagna
tasted like food from a cheap wedding reception. Might have been better
with some wine. Never got any.

Don Vito's in South Coast - For Dinner

Month Visited: 02/07 - Bad Meal

If you are white trash, then this may be the fine dining experience you are looking for. I think I even saw the actual Don Vito wearing Bog Boy's overalls. Think Italian Denny's. Service was bad. Wait with reservations was bad. Seating was bad. Food was bad. Dirty glasses and sliverware were bad. Follow diners....bad. Bad. Bad, bad, bad.

Bad. Did I say bad?

Don Vito's in South Coast - For Dinner

Month Visited: 10/06 - Good Meal

Really enjoyed the food here! Everything was fresh, hot and served in a timely manner. Our waiter was excellent and made us feel very comfortable. I'm sorry but this is just not a restaurant for children. There were two there while we were trying to have a calm relaxing meal. One was watching a dvd but was also constantly moving. The other was at the piercing shrieking stage, happily encouraged by doting parents. Not fun and rather nerve wracking! I would, however, recommend this restaurant for the very good food.

Great! Service, Food, atmosphere, all great. My husband had the Veal Piccata and he is very fuzzy about veal, he loved it. Unfortunately, I ordered Penne Arrabiatta which was extremely hot. I have ordered this many places and never was it so hot I couldn't eat it. But this was my selection and they tried to fix it by adding some Marinara sauce, but nothing could cool this dish down. But don't let that turn you off, this restaurant is very nice.

Don Vito's in South Coast - For Dinner

Month Visited: 05/06 - Good Meal

Don Vito's is a great Italian restuarant, we have already eaten there twice! And yes, the lighting is low to create atmosphere, but I could see everything fine, that other reviewer must be blind or something. The service was great, the portions were big, and the food was fantastic--some of the best veal parmesan that I have ever had. The entree's are mostly between $10-$20, so it's not that much more expensive than the Olive Garden, but the food quality is so much better.

If you choose to dine at Don Vito's, take a flash light. The restaurant is so poorly lit that additional portable lighting to read the menu is mandatory. The lighting must be the same in the kitchen because our dinners were so over cooked, they were almost unedible. Our Waitron kept apologizing for the poor lighting. We felt sorry for her.
