La Scala Restaurant - For Dinner

This intimate, white tablecloth Italian restaurant located on East Desert Inn is one that should please most discriminating diners. Our festa allí Italiana appetizer (prosciutto, salami, roasted peppers, coppa, eggplant, olives and hearts of palm) was excellent. For entrees we each ordered cappellaci con granchio in salsa bisque, which translates into mmm good, mmm good. Actually it was crab ravioli in a lobster bisque sauce and it was truly mmm good. We also shared a serving of Italian flan and pear in a Barolo sauce.

I had dinner with my husband here. No special occasion but he loves lobster and their signature dish is the lobster served in the shell with pasta. The atmosphere had a very old Las Vegas feel to it which is not a bad thing at all. We both enjoy a chance to dine out in a restaurant that is not filled with kids. And the food was excellent, especially the creme brulee. My only issues with the restaurant was the service. The waiter treated us cooly and while we were never ignored we were all but. His mood changed dramatically when regulars would walk in and I couldnt help but feel that he directed his attentions towards proven tippers. The secondary waiter was very pleasant and helpful which is why I did not grade the service lower. We left a healthy tip for that reason and perhaps next time we will feel more welcome.

Service was excellent from start to finish! One of our party wanted a dish prepared in a different way than on the menu, and the kitchen did it with no problem. My date had lobster with was perfectly done and delicious. This restaurant may be a little expensive {pastas here run about $16, but I've paid over $20.00 on the Strip} but all told the fine food and friendly, unpretentious service are worth it.
Plus, you don't have to walk out the door and hear the dinging of slot machines!

La Scala Restaurant - For Dinner

I am writing to express my utter disgust regarding the service my boyfriend and I received at La Scala Ristorante Italiano.

We are new in town and were looking for a nice Italian restaurant to eat at for Valentine's Day. We saw the listing for La Scala Ristorante Italiano in the Las Vegas Weekly, checked out their website, and made reservations 10 days in advance for Valentine's Day. We arrived on time at 8:00 p.m., only to be told that our table would be ready soon, as they "had a couple of parties leaving soon". I thought the point of a reservation is to have the table RESERVED. We waited 15-20 minutes before being seated. We also asked for the "non-smoking" section; however, the woman at the table to the right of ours was smoking!

Next, after our waiter served us our drinks, he proceeded to ignore us for 25 minutes before taking our order. He happily gabbed with the patrons who had already ordered at every one of his other tables and slowly took his time. It wasn't until my boyfriend flagged him down that he actually stopped to take our order. Once our food came, the server never once came back over to ask us if we needed anything or to see how food was. When it was time to leave, our server was useless yet again. We had to ask another waiter to ask our server to give us our check. He then half-heartedly "apologized" for the delay and gave us our check. Being a food server myself, I normally can empathize and sympathize with the stresses that come with the job. However, this was not a fast paced restaurant where it was extremely busy and the guy was overworked; he appeared to be a seasoned server who was just blatantly taking his time and rudely ignoring us. Even though he took my water and my boyfriend's 1 glass of wine off the bill, I would not recommend this place. The food was great, but the service is terrible at best!
