- Bad Meal
A large group (12 people), of which I was a part, chose to dine at your restaurant. This was an unexpected visit; after a phone call inquiry if our group could be accommodated, we walked in and were immediately seated without a reservation. For this we were very grateful. No one in our party had ever dined in this restaurant previous to that evening.
The menu states that Chicken, Beef, Veal and Fish dishes (basically any non-pasta dishes) are served with side dishes of polenta and garlic potatoes. At least five people in my party ordered a dish that qualified to be served with the polenta/potato sides and did not receive them. It wasn’t until we all discussed our experience later that this was realized.
For dinner I ordered the gnocci; I was delivered a plate of gooey dough balls and some tasty sausage swimming in the sausage grease. For dessert I ordered the homemade tiramisu. I had a few bites (which is all I wanted to begin with); I shared it with my neighbor who also took a few bites. I decided on "one last bite" and after putting it in my mouth I discovered a foreign body in it. I removed from my mouth a piece of aluminum, that appeared to have been turned out from a can opener, at least an inch long. I showed it to the bus boy as he collected dishes from the table.
Our waiter (a jovial man who appeared to be more in the role of manager that evening) came over and asked me what could be done to make up for the piece of metal in my dessert. I had ordered two glasses of house wine with my meal and requested they be removed from the bill. The man refused saying he could not remove anything from the bill, only that he could bring me a replacement. Why bother asking me what can be done for me and then REFUSE? I didn’t want anything else and dismissed him. He left and returned to me with an after dinner drink. It wasn’t something I requested or wanted so I consider that a nice gesture rather than a resolution.
General consensus amongst the group members is that the experience as a whole was unsatisfactory in addition to being overly expensive. The wine offerings are outrageously priced, one could personally purchase the wine offered at 1/2 to 2/3 less per bottle than the restaurant price. Additionally, charging $6 - $8 for “house” wine is highway robbery! No consumer in his/her right mind would ever expect to pay more than $3 - $4 for a glass of wine that is poured from a gallon jug.
As a group we were there to visit with each other which, does not lend time for scouring the wine list for prices of “house” wine, ask the waiter to speak clear English in order to understand the specials, grill the waiter for prices on the specials, or baby-sit the wait staff to ensure everyone receives what they should. After all, not having to pay attention to those details is the reason people elect to go to restaurants in the first place.
