- Bad Meal
First let me say that I am a big fan of Mario Batali having watched him on the Food Network for years and that is why I went to Carnevino with great expectations. I have eaten in several great steak houses and fine restaurants throughout the West Coast, including many in Las Vegas. I found the atmosphere to be excellent, the service to be adequate and the food greatly disappointing. The steak I ordered was the bone-in New York Strip with two sides, Italian Broccoli and Mixed Mushrooms. The broccoli was way overcooked - steamed or boiled until it was unseasoned, limp and tasteless. The mixed mushrooms while seasoned properly were served cold. The biggest disappointment was the steak. It was an unremarkable piece of meat which was neither seasoned nor prepared with any distinction. The quality of the meat itself while supposedly aged for 65 days had no better flavor than that served at a local Denny's. Needless to say, after spending over $100 on my meal I felt I could have done better at a neighborhood Applebee's. I find it difficult to believe that Mario Batali, while lending his name to this restaurant, has actually ever had the opportunity to have eaten there. I left my name and number on the comment card with the manager of the restaurant, who apologized but took no responsibility. With all the choices one has for restaurants in Las Vegas, it will be a long time before I revisit Carnevino.
