- Good Meal
We had a truly delightful eating experience at Fleur de Lys. The staff was very pleasant, not pretentious and impeccable at anticipating our needs. We had the 6 course chef's choice tasting menu as we just wanted to enjoy and not have to think or make choices. The food was complex and interesting. The smoked salmon ravioli and the halibut were very good. The portion sizes were very good, other than the desert which seemed a bit larger than we really had room for; though it was very good (we opted for the chocolate soufflé). It was our “special meal” for our trip and we were both very pleased.

We had a fantastic meal here in August of 2006. The atmosphere was quietly elegant, and the service was impeccable. The waitress began by asking us about any food allergies, which surprised us until we encountered the food. Most of the items are so elaborately prepared and presented that you can’t necessarily be sure of all the ingredients, so we appreciated knowing that they were safe for us to eat.
One appetizer was a fantastic tuna tartare-- the best tuna dish I’ve ever had. The other was a playful trio of quail dishes, including quail breast, quail leg, and a fennel compote with quail foie gras, topped with a fried quail egg. My entrée was diver scallops with smoked mussels served over a smoky truffled chowder; my companion had the beef filet. Fabulous! Dessert was another trio, including peach mousse cake and champagne sorbet. We were also served an amuse-bouche and a complimentary post-dessert plate of tiny dessert tastes.
The portions were small, but extremely satisfying because of their visual and gastronomic interest. Including appetizers, entrees, desserts, a $16 glass of wine (their least expensive dry white wine) and tip, the bill was $228.95. Not cheap, but a wonderfully unique dining experience.

First, I will say that the dining room is absolutely beautiful. A stunning room. And, I will also say that the lobster with tangerine sauce was amongst the finest dishes that I have ever tasted. The problem with the restaurant was that the we had a three course tasting menu that was complete in under an hour. We might as well have been served in a drive-thru. There was no effort on the waitstaff's part to even remotely try to allow us to savor anything about the experience. It was as if they had somewhere else to go and were in a hurry to do it. The food, other than the above mentioned lobster dish, was good, but certainly not exciting. The service just ruined the experience for us. And, as we were about to leave the restaurant, my wife had to use the restroom. When we asked the hostess where it was, she guided us to the one in the main hallway at Mandalay Bay, as if we had just dropped in to use the restroom and had not just dined there. She certainly should have remembered us, as it hadn't been much earlier that she had seated us. The service needs work.
