Alizé in Palms Resort - For Dinner

Month Visited: 06/07 - Undecided

We were disappointed with Alize, after all the wonderful things we had read. We had to walk through the grungy Palms casino to get to the elevator. The food was decent, but nothing to rave about. The prices were high. The view, however, was beautiful. The waitstaff were very nice and friendly - not snooty at all. I'm not sure if we would go back there. We prefer Top of the World for overall ambience and food choices.

DURING TWO VISITS, WAITERS COMMENTED ON MY INAPPROPRIATE USE OF 1) A CHEESE FORK 2) A
SEAFOOD FORK. THEY MADE A CONDESCENDING COMMENT LIKE "HERE IS A CHEESE FORK. YOU USE IT TO
PIERCE THE CHEESE AND SPREAD IT ON TOASTPOINTS. DUH!!.

Well you cant beat the view after the deck at the Picasso its probably the best but if you want to save money and get a great meal withan equally great
high up view go the the Startosphere...anyway the staff were not very friendly
initially but perked up after a little bitching over an hour wait for the
main course..all in all a place you visit at least once especially if you
just won big at the craps table!!!

Before going, you need to remember that it's expensive, alright very expensive (dinner for 2 with wine was over $400), and part of that money is paying for one of the best views of Las Vegas, along with the view comes attentive service and very good, but not excellent food.

While the food was very good, I cannot say that I was "blown away" by the preperation, perhaps coming from NYC my standards are high, but I was expecting one of the top 5 meals of my life for the price and while I got a great meal, it was a top 20 meal. Andre is a fine chef/restauranteur for Vegas, but wouldn't last too long in Manhattan.

The service was outstanding and attentive, prompt, but not overbearing. Of particular note was the sommelier, he was informative, but not pushy.

The view was the selling point, it's amazing, and my request for a romatic window side table was fufilled, so no complaints there.

Overall, it's a great place, if you know it's expensive and can afford it, you won't be disappointed.

Alize' is chef Andre's latest restaurant (his others are Andre's downtown and Andre's at the Monte Carlo). The room is gorgeous with breathtaking views of the strip and the moutains. The service from our "hyperactive" server (captain?) was pretentious. He acted as if he was serving people who had never dined at a fine restaurant before. He kept commenting about how "award winning" everything was. He was amusing at times, "..would you like tap water, sparkling water, or flat water?". Chef Andre's food is certainly "nouvelle" and when it is good, (as it was throughout our meal) it is REALLY good; comparable to Gray Kunz' complex preparations at Lespinasse in NYC in its glory days. Yes, it's THAT good. Be forewarned however: chef Andre is courageous and if he ever misses with a dish, it will be a BIG miss! Fortunately, there were no misses during our meal. Aside from the pretentious captain, the wait staff (busboys, wine steward, waitress) were professional and friendly. The wine list is extensive, but the most inexpensive wines are around $60.00. We had one of lesser expensive wines (a Babcock Pinot Noir at $65.00)and it was excellent. This is a special occasion place, even if the special occasion is a farewell dinner before flying home.

Sorry, I was not impressed. The view is great. This is true. They did bring out a wonderful Lobster Bisque...this is also true. But I do NOT appreciate the oh-so trendy RAW duck breast witha few drops of the oh-so-trendy rasberry essence. The COOKED (for hours, until it falls off the bone) duck I had the next night at Pietros (Tropicana Hotel) blew Alize's version off the map. The wife's entree was ok, but again TOO GOD DAMN TRENDY......not tasty, just trendy. PLEASE would you guys running French restaurants realize that the classic old dishes are classic because people LIKE them....and have been requesting them for hundreds of years. You just want to be different by coming up with wierd combinations that nobody really wants to eat.

The bottom line, Alize is a pleasant experience with food that will leave you wishing for something more substantial. By the way, lest you think that these words come from a low-brow who simply can't appreciate the "delicate" level of cooking offered by Alize, I'm a French chef myself and can make better food at *home* than most of what we had at Alize. I'd go for the Eiffel Tower if I wanted a view with French food. I don't find the Eiffel Tower to be magnificent, but it does have solid Haute cuisine.

A wonderful dinner. A view that cannot be beat. Service was absolutely outstanding, as was the food. We had appetizer, soup, salad, entrees, dessert and wine. This is the place for a special meal. $170 was the total tab including tax and tip. Just visit the Alize website at http://www.alizelv.com to view the menu. We give Alize our highest rating.

Had the Christmas Eve dinner (set menu) and it was outstanding!!! Familiar as well as exotic ingredients in the dishes to choose from. Highly recommended, and the view of the Strip/city is top notch.

We have waited to try this restaurant to see if we could see some reviews but none came. We finally went on our own despite the lack of reviews. We stayed at The Palms over Christmas and decided we needed to try Alize. The maitre'd was fantastic. We had an incredible view. Actually, there isn't a bad seat in the place. There is a small intmate bar in Alize different from anything else you will find in The Palms. We started with the fois gras appetizer. It was incredible. The sommelier was absolutely the best. Very great personality and very helpful with the huge wine list. If you are the type to spend $100 or more on a bottle of wine your choices are endless, some great values. If you want a cheap bottle of wine, forget it!! My husband had the venison with the polenta
and roasted chestnuts which was out of this world. I had the short ribs with a wine reduction sauce which was very good but not as good or as different as my husbands. The whole experience was fantastic from the food, to the wine and especially the view. If you are willing to spend $200 or more this is absolutely a fabulous restaurant.
