Ping Pang Pong - For Dinner

We have enjoyed their dim sum brunch in the past, however, service on this evening was beyond slow so I called over the manager and explained we had a show to catch and could she call over a waitress. She literally called across the room and a waitress soon appeared. We gave our orders, Singapore noodles and wrinkled green beans, while advising of her of our evening’s plans. Our green beans arrived, but some 10 minutes later we were still waiting for the noodles. I again called over the manager who called over the waitress who checked with the chef and said it would be a few more minutes. Both dishes were decent, but it would have been nice to enjoy them together.

I didn't expect a Chinese restaurant with the a name like Ping Pang Pong to be half-way decent, but I was completely and pleasantly surprised. Had a late night meal at 1 AM and the service was courteous and responsive to our needs. The food was better than I could have hoped for. We ordered the Walnut Shrimp, Orange Beef, and Cantonese Sausage Fried Rice. All dishes were uniformly delicious. Although it could not possibly match what you could get in Richmond, BC, I would definitely be very happy if I could have this restaurant in my home town.

This place is GREAT - you can always tell a good ethnic restaurent if the clientele is ethnic. We were the only non-chinese there. You get huge portions of excellent fare. Singapore Noodles were great, although they scimped on the shrimp a little. Kung Pao chicken was excellent. Mongolian beef less so, but I never really like Chinese beef dishes, so don't ask me to judge that one. We started with Hot and Sour Soup and one other appetizer - both very good. We had so much food that the to-go box lasted us another two lunchtime meals, so value for money is great.

This restaurant is located in the Gold Coast casino and is open to the casino, including its noises and its smoke. The first thing I noticed was that except for kung pao chicken and a few noodle dishes, the items were ones I've never seen before. we were looking for a simple meat or poultry dish with vegetables but found none. (Perhaps we should have asked.) We ordered the walnut prawn dish because some gentlemen in the casino were raving about it. It was beautiful butterflyed prawns and toasted walnuts in a mayonnaise and honey sauce. The men who recommended it might have loved it, but we didn't.
