Alex - For Dinner

Alex was by far the most amazing (and expensive) dining experience I have ever had. I was in awe when we first arrived - what a beautiful room and the staircase was exquisite. There were 4 of us (two couples). I loved the little velvet chair for our purses. The food & service were the best I have ever experienced. This was really a special treat for us and I will never forget it. My husband and his friend are very much into wine so we started off with a bottle of champagne and that was followed by 2 bottles of burgundy and then a bordeaux. At the end of our dinner, we were presented with our wine labels - all laminated and ready to take with us so that we never forget our evening at Alex. Oh, and the total for the 4 of us....$2,400. But that was mostly wine since dinner was only $120 a person :) It was worth every penny.

There are three 5 Diamond rated restaurants in Las Vegas, and Alex is one of them. This means the best of everything, and the highest possible price. With a $75 half bottle of wine, the tab for two was $400 with tax and tip. The menu offers a fixed price menu #1, fixed price menu #2, and a more general menu where, for $120 a person, you choose an appetizer, main disk and dessert. Menu 1 or 2 would have cost $50-100 more per person.

Service is better than excellent. 4 or 5 people swinging in and out for bread, water, removing plates and unused silverware, bringing fresh silverware, wine, food, and not annoying but very professional. We were greeted by name by the two lovlies at the hostess desk and again by name upon leaving. Superb room and the finest china and silver.

The fixed price menu's arrays are very french, heavy on Foix Grois, sweetbreads, etc.; not for us. But the "do it yourself" menu in which you choose among various appetizers and main dishes offers plenty of excellent choices.

Although you order 3 items, there were 5 additional small courses. A small plate of finger foods, bread, a middle sorbet/pudding course, chocolates even after the dessert etc.

Our only tepid comment is that the food was good, but not great. The appetizers we had, very good, not great. Same for the entree and desserts.

Very enjoyable experience. But for $200 a person, we've found the food at Picasso at Bellagio superior. We also love Le Cirque at Bellagio, which I understand is also 5 Diamond rated and a bit less money but again, superior service, atmosphere etc... But Picasso is still our first choice.

Still, you'll be very, very happy at Alex if you're looking for a high end event dinner.

The food was ill-prepared...first underdone and then overdone. My husband had to eat alone. The
service was awful, and we finally had to ask for the manager. I used to eat at Renoir where Alex was
the head Chef...and we were looking forward to eating there. A tremendous let down...Never again.

If you want the best meal in Vegas, you eat at Alex's. Hands down the best food, best service, and best wine service in Las Vegas. We had three progressively better meals at Alex. We cancelled other reservations to eat at Alex's. I will fly out specifically to eat at Alex's. This is worth every penny you spend here. Forget the casinos, spend it here. I've had the luxury of eating some of the finest restaurants in NYC and the world, and this is their equal in every respect and better than the vast majority. Chef Stratta is a clearly on top of everything. The sommelier, Gregory Condes was absolutely perfect with his pairings. I still taste the food and wine. Chef Stratta was even kind enough to work around a food allergy and create a menu that we will be dreaming about for years to come. There are some can't miss items on the menu, which include the short rib so rich and a sauce so fantastic you wish you could eat all day, the stuffed rabbit was the best I have ever tasted anywhere, ricotta gnocchi so light and delicate it was like a burst of flavor on the palate. The waitstaff where fantastic. Not over bearing, but there when you needed them. The glasses were always filled with water or wine. The breads were outstanding. The walnut bread was phenomenal and I in particular don't like walnuts. The desserts were also stellar. In a city where big name chefs are throwing their names on any restaurant they can without every really cooking there, you can be assured that Alex will not only be there, he'll probably say hello to you at the table. What a restaurant!!!! What a chef!!!
