Salt Lick BBQ in Red Rock - For Bad Meal
Month Visited: 07/09
This place was OK. The service was fine, the prices were OK, and the food was good. Not the best bar-b-que I've ever had, but certainly not the worst. I would not recommend it, however, because shortly after dinner my husband and I were assailed by the worst case of painful, cramping gas I've ever had. If you're going to give it a try, I suggest taking a healthy dose of Beano before hand. Definitely not worth it.

Salt Lick BBQ in Red Rock - For Dinner

This is probably the worst barbecue restaurant I have ever eaten at. The service was slow and the food was terrible. For starters, this place's idea of "chopped brisket" is simply cutting prisket into smaller pieces, not properly chopping it. Positively delicious when served to you cold with Salt Lick's single bland, runny sauce. I used to believe that any BBQ restaurant can cook meat, that the difference is in the sauce. Salt Lick disproved the first part of that statement. How these people stay in business is beyond me (their Santa Fe Station location has already folded). They must get a lot of first-time customers, being in a casino. It's a cinch they don't get much repeat business - not if what they are serving is anything like what my family got.
There were three people in my party and everyone ordered something different - and none of us liked what we got. For my money I go to Famous Dave's, with great food and five distinctly different sauces.

Salt Lick BBQ in Red Rock - For Dinner

I'm from the South and anyone who's from the South can really give an "honest" and "acurate" review in regards to BBQ Restaurants and if they're any good. I've got to say that for ANYONE who thinks that Memphis Barbecue is THE place to go for "GOOD" barbecue...well, you have a lot to learn people because seriously, that is NOT REAL barbecue! Wow, to think that even the travel channel rates Salt Lick as one of the TOP 10 barbecue restaurants! It's not a matter of opinion, it's based on facts. It's based on annual earnings. This is truly one of THE best!

Salt Lick BBQ in Red Rock - For Dinner

The salt lick is no longer open for lunch. Since the Red Rock has gone priviate ownership they arecutting corners. Not prices1 I used to eat there once a week. but now that they aren't open for lunch the cooks also come in latter. That means the meat is much less smoked. Funny it's also much dryed out. The plates the food was served on were cold so the warm food quickly became cold. My baked potato was small 2-21/2 inches, the mac and cheese cold and tasteless. The Brisket no longer has the red color of good smoaked meat. The rest of the serving reminded me of tourest class air plane food.
I won't be returning.

Salt Lick BBQ in Red Rock - For Dinner

This restaurant is not competition for Memphis Championship BBQ here in Las Vegas. Locals - don't waste your money. Quality of meat did not meet hipe. Ribs were not tender. Links were good. Sides were unremarkable with cole slaw very peppered and hot on the tongue. Bread was served cold with butter hard as a rock. Not a great combination. All of the meat was smothered in sauce even though I requested it dry. They could not get it right. Also, they sat us at a 2-person table in the late afternoon and we had to contend with sun in my husband's eyes. Manager walked by while we both were shielding our eyes from the sun -- no response. We mentioned it to both the waitress and the cashier. The waitress indicated that maybe they will be getting blinds. The cashier's response was that it was summer. I replied that I have lived here for 3 years and now recognize summer. We will not be returning. We own Station Casino stock and we are very disappointed. Memphis BBQ has this place beat by a smoked mile! I may write to Station Casinos and tell them that this restaurant does not meet quality standards. It is NOT Green Valley Ranch.

We moved to Las Vegas from Texas and tried Salt Lick. Big mistake. The brisket and sausage was OK, but the chef needs to take a trip to the original Salt Lick in Deadwood, Tx. to learn how to cook ribs. They were not cooked long enough and were tough. The sides were not something you would not find in any restaurant in Tx. They were awful. This place is taking short cuts which is why there are no lines anymore. We can't understand why the original Salt Lick would put up with such an imposter restaurant. If you go to Tx you won't find bar-b-q like this.
