Battista's Hole In The Wall - For Dinner

Month Visited: 04/07 - Good Meal
My family has gone to Batista's for about 30 years now (same accordian player too...) and have never had a bad meal. This is my third time going with a group of friends and we always have a great time. If you are with a group of guys, try dividing up each side of the table into teams...one for red wine and one for white wine. That'll get the meal off right. The meal comes with: house wine, garlic bread, soup/salad, meal, pasta side, capuccino. It ranges from $16-$32, but it is all-inclusive. It's loud in there and always crowded, but that's just adds to the atmosphere there. I will go back every time I go to Vegas.

Battista's is what it is. The place is what it is. It is no way fine dining so if that is what you are looking for you will be disappointed. However, if you are tired of the buffets and are looking for a simple Italian meal, this place more then fits the bill. It is a bit pricey but, the charm the place has will win over most people.

Well, with name like "Hole in the Wall", should you really expect a gourmet meal? Yes, the house dressing is Good Seasons, yes the cappucino is hot chocolate (even has whipped cream), and yes, the wine probably comes from a box. You eat there for the atmosphere and embrace the cheesy stuff that comes with it. I thought the food was very good (meals are $20-$35), and the service was fast and friendly. A swanky restaurant it's not, but it's a great place to hang out with family and friends and get schnockered on all the cheap wine you can drink. We'll be back!

Had heard many good things about the food here. Finally splurged and went to try it for ourselves. One of the freebie mags had this listed in the $10-$20 range and that was so wrong! However, we did have a good meal. The meals include soup or salad, bread, house wine, entree with pasta side and a cappacino. Three of ate for $70-$80. More than we planned to spend but a nice experience. They have a gentleman who plays accordian for tips and he was very charming. Location was easy to get to as we were staying at Bally's.

This rats nest is probably the worst I have ever eaten in. It's been a week and I'm still trying to figure out how they can stay in business. I can't even describe how tasteless the slop was. They didn't even offer desert, although I don't think I would have ventured that far. McDonalds is gourmet compared to this joint! Oh and you gotta tip the accordian player to get rid of him.

You don't come here for a gourmet meal. It's a taste of old Vegas and a view of a cheesy Italian restaurant. The wine is "jug" quality and the food is nothing to rave about, but it is fun if you come with realistic expectations. Gordy the Accordian player is part of the "ambiance" so just go with it, request a tune and toke hime 2 bucks.

After our second visit here we won't be going back. First visit couple of years ago was good. Thought it would be fun to take some friends here. It was our night to choose the restaurant and I know now that we should have gone somewhere else. We had terrible service problems. We finally realized that tables seated much later than us were eating and found out our order had never been placed. They tried to hurry after that and even comped us a couple of deserts but it's just no fun to pay those prices and then have service like that. The restaurant is crowded and loud. The accordian player makes it obvious he expects a tip. It's fine to tip him but I never like when someone's begging for it. This restaurant is mentioned in many guidebooks, etc. and I feel like that's the only thing keeping it going. I require more value and service so this place is off the list from now on.

Being Italian American, I am usually overly critical of eating out at Italian restaurants, however, any person that eats at this place can figure it out that this is by far the most pathetic Italian restaurant ever. You are better off eating at an Olive Garden or Macaroni Grill. Menu choices were ample. My friend ordered a salad when given the choice between soup or salad. He asked for crumbly blue dressing and was told 'we don't have crumbly blue, but we have the best Italian ever' so needless to say he ordered it with Italian and so did I. Without an ounce of exaggeration, the best way to describe Battista's 'best Italian ever' is to take a bottle of vegetable oil and pour it on lettuce. Not a drop of vinegar in the dressing, nor salt, pepper or oregano. Nothing. Then came the free garlic bread. Terrible quality bread that was served just barely warm with butter on it. Whatever happened to adding some garlic, salt, pepper, perhaps some parsley to the garlic bread? I ordered a steak dinner called steak caruso that the waiter said was one of their best. Tenderloin tips which were decent, but not great, were served with some undercooked/underseasoned bell peppers over pasta in the most watery and tastless madiera sauce. It's a good thing the person I was with was paying for the meal, because I would have sent the meal back to the kitchen and walked out. Good thing they provided free table wine. Too bad I did not drink more of it before the meal came, then I would not have cared about the flavor of the food. And as you will read in other reviews, the wine is not the greatest, but it does the trick. The capucinno that was included was not made with coffee whatsoever. It was hot cocoa with whipped cream. If you prefer hot cocoa after a meal, this is your place. most of the people I was with were not Italian Americans so to them, the hot chocolate tasted great. Trsut me on this, save the $30-$35 it will cost you to eat lettuce served with plain oil and hot cocoa and spend the $22-$28 on average that it costs for a buffet at the Rio, MGM grand, or Bellagio.

It is hard to find the appropriate means to rate something so bad.Right from the plonk they call wine to the plastic dishes. The food was barely edible.I had pasta with clam goop that tasted like diced pink pearl erasers. My wife had the special pasta lump of the day.Dinner was followed by cappucino that had nothing to do with coffee(chocolate milk). It was consistent with the prevailing Vegas palate -food stripped of any flavour whatsoever.
