La Fiesta Restaurant - For Lunch

Month Visited: 09/05 - Good Meal

This new restaurant is a bit odd. The decor is fun and tropical, fresh and clean. The service was ok, a little slow (and we were the only table) and I never got my ice tea (but I stopped trying) but it had things going for it. The prices are low. Breakfast is in the Denny's range and cheaper, I know people who have eaten here and loved it. My friend and I had lunch. I ordered enchiladas rojas (I got chicken, the red sauce was a mole) and my friend ordered the fried fish. Well we both got what we ordered. But before the we both got a surprise. We got bowls of broth with cilantro and side salads with italian dressing. It was a nice touch, it wasn't listed on the menu. The salad was mostly iceberg lettuce, nothing special, but I can't complain at an unexpected freebie, and I liked the broth. When our meals came my Enchiladas Rojas (6.95) came with 4 enchiladas in a nice sweet, mildy spicy and tangy mole. They were great. The problem being they came about 5 minutes before my dining companion's food. After they arrived a plate of rice and what looked like fresh hand made refried beans came. Nice touch, again. After that my friend's food came. Well, it was fried and it was fish. Exactly as promised. But we're gringos. We didn't expect the head and scales. We were thinking fried filet. Oh well. The fish was disturbing to us, we put a nice little tortilla on his head so he wouldn't stare at us. I hate fish, but my friend said the meat was juicy and well cooked, but somewhat bland. Again, he got what he ordered, fried fish. With nice presentation too (including head and scales). So he couldn't eat much, he had some of my enchiladas, which we both enjoyed very much. On the way out they offered us some homemade fresh complimentary rice pudding, we passed, though I imagine it was great. The gentleman told us to bring the reciept back for 10% off our next meal, and, here's the kicker, gave us a free kitchen knife in a cardboard sheath with the card for the place attached. I have to admit, that was ingenious. In short it was an ok visit, the place just opened up and I expect that once they get into thier groove it will be even better. It was a friendly place, out of the way, with good quality food at low prices. And they go out of thier way to try to give you a good experience. But one warning, if you go and order fried fish, be prepared for a head.    16090
